I have stopped

Yesterday evening I got tired of waiting for d-day to come around so I smoked my last cigarette at around 7.20pm yesterday. I had finished Allen Carr’s book “The Easy Way to Stop Smoking” and I figured I was stupid to hold on for another few hours.
Prem, my husband, took photos of me taking the last one – posted below.

The Last Puff:

And of course the last BUTT!

  1. Congratulations on taking one of the biggest steps you could ever take. I too like you have smoked my last cigarette, only mine was four years ago. Bravo, bravo, bravo on your brash art exhibit depicting the nasty side of smoking for all those who still thinking its so cool.

I was a pack-a-day smoker (Marlboro Man) for over 30 years, and I dropped it all on June 29th 2003. As you can see I have reached my 4 year anniversary, well on my way to a lung rejuvinated 5-Year-Quit. My biggest tip to help you cope with this is drinking water, lots of it, all the time. Carry only the small bottles for it gives you something to do with your hands, and provides you the hand to mouth motion that you long for so dearly. Concentrating on that will begin to slow down, as will the extreme cravings for smoking. If you always went outside to smoke like I did, take your water bottle outside and drink it. A personal goal I made was to see how clear I could make my urine each day. Plus, the water is a natural diaretic, so it can help curb the (small) weight gain that comes with quitting.

Another big thing, and you are already doing it, is to join a group of like minded quitters. I joined a website called http://www.quitnet.com which helped by announcing braggable rewards when surpassing specific goals laid out as anniversaries along the way. Don’t just think about the big anniversary (one year), but go for the little ones to help get you there. The site does an outstanding job of keeping you goal oriented.

I hope I’ve provided you some additional encouragement. There is nothing better in the world than quitting that nasty, unhealthy habit, and being able to really breathe again. In my last four years since quitting, I have only had one serious ailment (cold) that lasted about a week. You will be truly amazed at how quickly your body can heal itself when it isn’t hindered.

    Keep the Quit!!!
