Captivity of Another Kind
Captivity of Another Kind is an installation that mimicks a jail cell and seeks to increase social awareness of the growing problem of tobacco addiction in the world – 1 billion people will die prematurely from smoking in this century. The installation comprises tobacco marketing materials, mannequins and two videos contradicting each other. One video appropriates vintage TV commercials – happy jingles and messages repeatedly reaffirming positive notions of smoking while the other video depicts footage of a Hollywood star chain smoking, overlaid with documentary footage of a mother dying from lung cancer.
