Where Drawing Meets Painting
These works are created while attending figure drawing sessions where the artist draws from life with the objective of creating a painting that remains firmly within the realm of drawing. Each work is created on paper and is executed in a single session. The resulting images are a celebration of the fresh, decision-making process of drawing combined with the richness of color and texture offered by paint. The works are playful, sensuous, but highly sensitive to the physical presence of the model in the room but his/her mental detachment. During the long pose both artist and model fall into a reverie and lose any sense of self-consciousness and the model assumes a nakedness and a vacantness on which the artist projects her/his own emotions. The result is an outward manifestation of the artist imprinted on the form of the model. In these works the artist is not interested in achieving a likeness to the model and does not care if the body is misrepresented:- the goal is to capture passion, mood and place with a minimalist approach to mark making.
